Season Opener 2018-19: PROXIMITY: Erin Gee

Dal Niente celebrates the opening of the 2018-2019 season with a Proximity series concert featuring composer Erin Gee, whose award-winning Mouthpiece series uses non-traditional vocal sounds to construct intricate sonic landscapes. The concert will include the soft premiere of Gee’s new work for two sopranos, two percussionists, flute, clarinet, cello, and bass. For this new composition, Gee approaches the sound-worlds of specific insects, animals, and plants, mapping insect and human sound-production techniques on to each other to create music that is at once strange, familiar, and new.

Dal Niente will also perform Erin Gee’s Yamaguchi Mouthpieces, featuring soprano Carrie Henneman Shaw; Gee’s Mouthpiece XXVIII, for soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, and percussion; and Eivind Buene’s hypnotic Ultrabucolic Studies. Following the intermission, the composer and performers will discuss her influence and compositional techniques, giving the audience a window into her creative process. Listen closely.
